1. Who we are
Brilly is an AI-powered family management app built in Sydney, Australia. This policy is issued by the founder of Brilly ("Brilly", "we", "us") and explains how we handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Brilly is currently in an invite-only beta. Some features described here (such as payments and retailer ordering) are not yet active for all users; where a feature is not active, the related data is not being collected.
2. Our privacy promise
We never sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
We show no ads. Brilly is funded by subscriptions, not by your attention or your information.
Brilly never acts without you. Every action the AI proposes — a message, an order, a booking — requires your explicit approval before anything happens.
Your data stays in Australia. Your family's information is stored in Sydney, with limited processing by trusted providers listed below.
3. What we collect
Account information
- Your name, email address, and sign-in credentials (including Sign in with Apple or Google, if you choose those options).
Household and family information
- Details you choose to add about your household and its members — names, birthdays, relationships, schools, routines, dietary requirements, and allergies. Adding this information is always your choice, and you control what is included.
Voice recordings and brain dumps
- When you speak to Brilly, your voice recording is transcribed so the app can act on what you said. Recordings and transcripts are processed for this purpose only — never for advertising or voice profiling.
Content you create in the app
- Tasks, lists, notes, meal plans, grocery items, reminders, gift ideas, and other content you add or that Brilly drafts for your approval.
Connected services (only if you connect them)
- If you connect a calendar or email account (such as Google or Microsoft), Brilly reads the information needed to surface events and commitments to you. You can disconnect these at any time.
Purchase and order history
- When ordering features are active, records of orders you have approved through Brilly (retailer, items, amount, date) so Brilly can make smarter suggestions — like reordering staples or avoiding duplicate gifts.
Technical and usage information
- Device type, app version, and diagnostic information (such as crash reports) used to keep the app reliable.
Website
- If you join the waitlist on meetbrilly.com, we collect the email address you provide so we can contact you about Brilly.
4. How we use your information
- To run Brilly for your family — organising tasks, planning meals, tracking groceries, preparing your morning briefing, and drafting actions for your approval.
- To personalise the experience — remembering your family's preferences, routines, and history so Brilly gets more useful over time.
- To keep your family safe — for example, checking food suggestions against allergies you have recorded.
- To keep the app working — diagnosing errors, fixing bugs, and improving reliability.
- To communicate with you — service messages, and product updates if you have joined the waitlist or opted in.
We do not use your personal information for third-party advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
5. How AI processing works
Brilly uses leading AI services to understand what you say and to organise your family's life. When you interact with Brilly, relevant information (such as a voice transcript or your grocery list) is sent securely to our AI providers to generate a response. These providers process the data to deliver the service to you — they are our service providers, not owners of your data.
Critically, Brilly is proactive but never autonomous. The AI can suggest, draft, and prepare — but every real-world action requires your explicit approval inside the app before it happens.
6. Service providers we use
We use a small number of trusted providers to deliver Brilly. Each processes data only as needed to provide their service to us:
| Provider | What it does |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Secure database and backend hosting, located in Sydney, Australia (ap-southeast-2) |
| Anthropic | AI processing (understanding requests, drafting suggestions) |
| OpenAI (Whisper) | Converting your voice recordings to text |
| ElevenLabs | Generating Brilly's spoken voice responses |
| Google / Microsoft | Sign-in and calendar/email access, only if you connect these accounts |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple and app distribution via the App Store / TestFlight |
| Expo | App build and update delivery |
| Stripe | Payment processing (when subscriptions launch) |
| Mailchimp | Waitlist and email communications for meetbrilly.com |
| Netlify | Hosting for the meetbrilly.com website |
Some providers process data outside Australia. Where they do, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
7. How we protect your data
- Encryption — your data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Household isolation — database-level security rules (row-level security) ensure each household's data can only ever be accessed by members of that household.
- Least-privilege access — sensitive system credentials are never present in the app on your device; privileged operations run only on secured servers.
- Australian hosting — primary data storage is in Sydney, Australia.
No system is perfectly secure, but security is a founding principle of Brilly and is never traded for speed or convenience.
8. Your rights and choices
- Access and correction — you can view and edit your family's information in the app at any time, and you may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Deletion — you can request deletion of your account and your data. Deletion removes your data, not just deactivates your account.
- Disconnect services — you can disconnect a linked calendar or email account at any time.
- Unsubscribe — every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link.
- Complaints — if you have a privacy concern, contact us first (details below). You may also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
9. How long we keep data
We keep your information for as long as your account is active, because Brilly's usefulness comes from remembering your family's life. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information, except where a short retention period is required for legal, security, or accounting purposes.
10. Children
Brilly accounts are for adults (18+). Parents and guardians may add information about their children to manage family life — such as birthdays, school details, and allergies — and remain in control of that information at all times. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children, and we never use children's information for advertising or profiling.
11. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as Brilly grows — for example, when new features launch. When we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
